BACK TO ART SESSIONS
CEREMONY OF SELF
Ceremony of Self is an interdisciplinary exhibition from my residency alongside performance artist Flavia Bertram, guiding a group of young teen girls to explore what it means to be a creative female and self acceptance in today’s society.
They each identified their superpower and their works in progress to spring board ideas on what they can make which represents them for their own coming of age ceremony.
We facilitated a space for the girls to turn their ideas about themselves into objects such as masks, garments and props. These artworks were created over two weeks drawing on play and conversation.
We all collaborated on creatinga private ceremony held in Mosely Baths for friends and family. A special intimate moment to witness the young womens’ journey of process, self-reflection and transformation
This residency culminated into an exhibtion at Mosely Baths in the historic area of Birmingham for the public to see the girl’s art made during my residency.
